Hosted by the Barony of Calafia, in the Kingdom of Caid, at the Potrero Regional Park
Thursday May 22, 2008 - Monday May 26, 2008
The Barony will be providing Land Allocation Services for Potrero War. We will accept requests for land from groups of ten or more persons. Pre-registration is not required but it is encouraged as it will save you money and can increase the amount of land your group is allocated. Land will be allocated based upon the level of your registration. Except for the Sleepy Hollow area, those paying full price will receive areas of 250 square feet per person, those paying the Youth price will receive areas of 125 square feet and those children who are guests of the Barony will receive no land allocation. Also large groups who pre-register will get an additional 250 square feet per 10 people. Geopolitical groups will get preferential treatment and an additional 900 square feet for infrastructure items such as a great hall (dining area) and fire pits. After Geopolitical groups, Land Allocation sites for household groups are 1st come, 1st served. Groups are asked to decide upon a single, central point of contact that is empowered to speak for the group. Please provide us with your first, second and third choices respectively, by grid location from the site grid map, and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. Your allocated land is safe until 6pm Friday evening. If no one from your group has arrived by then, your group loses its allocation. Any groups found to be moving boundary markers or attempting to set up camp in a site allocated to a different group will be removed from the site. Negotiation with your neighbors is encouraged and any unallocated land is considered shared by whoever borders it. We ask that you, please, only take what you need. We ask that all groups be willing to work with their neighbors to come to reasonable, agreeable conclusions when land disputes arise.
For large group encampments, the Staff recommends Stone's Throw, North Shore, Camelot, The Breaks, and Bedlam. Unfortunately the camp sites in Sleepy Hollow are not set up to accommodate large communal spaces such as dining halls and drum circles and are more appropriate to small to medium sized groups. Depending on the number of people in your group, it may be impossible to give you 250 square feet per person if you wish to stay in Sleepy Hollow.
Setup Crew & Merchants are the only SCA members allowed on site before 10am on Thursday. No exceptions. If you have pre-registered you are allowed on site after 10am on Thursday, Noon if you have not. This means you may not come in to "walk the site" or survey the area. You will be given a number at gate if you arrive early on Thursday morning. Please do not call the Park Service for reservations, as the Barony has reserved the entire park for this event and you will be referred back to the Seneschal.
Note: The Staff pays the same fees you do for the privilege of working their back-sides off all weekend and are allowed to set up an encampment early so that they may be working when everybody else shows up. If you are interested in being on the War Staff and/or Setup Crew, contact the Baronial Seneschal and negotiate a Volunteer Contract for the next war.
RV sites are reserved for RVs. This means that the RV pads in Sleepy Hollow are for the use of RVs only. They may not be used for camp kitchens and must be accessible to any RV that wants to reserve them via the pre-registration process. RVs are entitled to one electrical outlet and one hose hook up (the other outlet is available for the tent campers). They are not entitled to the fire ring; this belongs to the tent campers. Splitters for the hose bibs are available at Base Camp. RV pads are located beside electrical/water outlet.
RV pads are not included in the tent camping area of Sleepy Hollow and may not be reserved by those who are tent camping. This means you may not "hold" a RV pad for a member of your household if you are tent camping in Sleepy Hollow. By the same token, a RV may not hold a tent camping space. Groups that have a mix of RVs and tents may obtain room at the same site by pre-registering the RV pad in a particular site and requesting land allocation for the surrounding campsite for a group of ten or more persons.
Sleepy Hollow has quiet time starting 11:00PM each night.
This is a relatively primitive site in the rural part of San Diego County.
Restrooms: There are plumbed showers located in the RV camping area (Sleepy Hollow). Additionally, the Barony has provided "Sun" showers at the Sleepy Hollow and North Shore restrooms. Because of gray-water issues, no other personal showers are allowed.
RV sites: Water and electricity are available at the RV pads in Sleepy Hollow. A sanitary dump station is located near the Ranger's Office. There are approximately 32 RV spaces in Sleepy Hollow and an additional 7 RV spots in Caravan Circle by the Closed Ramada with water and electricity. Additionally, there are 12 RV spaces in the Caravan Circle that do not have any utility hook-ups.
Health Issues: The site can be dry and dusty. Please bring your normal medications (including inhalers and bee sting kits) if you have allergies or asthma. The normal flora and fauna of the area can include: poison oak, fire ants, ticks, bees, and rattlesnakes (typical inhabitants of southern California rural areas). The grounds are relatively flat, but have large gopher/ground squirrel holes. The site is wheelchair accessible, but is not paved and can be difficult to navigate.
Water Spigots: Potable water from a public water supply is available at several locations around the site. All spigots must be left accessible to the public at all times. Hoses or the like may not be attached in such a way as to block easy access. Under no circumstances may anyone wash dishes, clothing or their person(s) at a public water spigot. Please use common sense and courtesy to aid us all in maintaining sanitary public water access.
