Archery

All of the Archery shoots scheduled this year will BEGIN at the scheduled time. If you wish to participate, please arrive at the archery range 10 minutes prior to the shoot's scheduled time to join the lists.

Also, if you wish to shoot at anything other than the Hay Wall, you must have a current SCA authorization card. We advise, for your convenience, that you authorize prior to war. If you are unable to do so, there will be scheduled authorization periods at war.

Summary: Royal Round
Description: The Royal Round is scored, from the center, outward, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. An arrow touching the black line dividing two colored scoring rings shall be counted as the higher scoring of the two rings. The round consists of an end of six arrows shot at 40 yards, an end of six arrows shot at 30 yards, and an end of six arrows shot at 20 yards, with a 3 minute time limit. This is followed by a 30-second speed end, shot from 20 yards. There will be a sighting end of six arrows before each slow end at 40, 30 and 20 yards.

Summary: Poker Shoot
Description: The “Poker Shoot” will consist of shooting at a suit of cards (hearts) that are displayed on the target. The shoot will involve shooting six arrows at the 40, 30 and 20 yard line. There will also be a speed round (30 seconds) at the 20 yard line. There will be two ends. The archer who has the greatest number of winning hands wins the event.

Summary: Toutie Fruity Bunny Shoot
Description: The “Toutie Fruity Bunny Shoot” kids shoot is for children eight years and older who have experience at archery. There are fifteen different colored eggs on the target with different point values. Each archer will shoot six arrows at fifteen yards for score. The archer will then shoot at ten yards and score. The top three archers will win an assortment of “Toutie Fruity” treats. Be careful in not hitting the bunny!!! NOTES: For Experienced Shooters Ages 8+

Summary: Snakes and Ladders
Description: The ”Snakes and Ladders” kids shoot is for children six years and older. Each archer shoots six arrows at a distance of 15, 10 and 5 yards at the target. If the archer hits a snake, they take the score of the square at the bottom of the snake. If the archer hits a ladder, they take the score of the square at the top of the ladder. If the archer hits the target anywhere else, they just take the score of that square.
The archer with the top score wins the competition. NOTES: For kids 6+

Summary: Mini-Lyondemere Round
Description: The “Mini-Lyondemere Round” will consist of a Period target. The scoring on the target will be 8 (yellow), 4(green) and 2 (white). The shooting distances and arrows will be the following:
15 yards - 2 arrows
25 yards - 4 arrows
35 yards - 8 arrows
The archer with the highest score will win the competition.

Summary: Gyldenholt Shoot
Description: The “Gyldenholt Shoot” will consist of 3 period targets as follows:
1. Wand: a 4" wide "willow wand" shot at 30 yards, 6.
2. SCA standard period target: 2 arrows each at 3 different non-standard distances (total of 6 arrows).
3. "Oyster shells" playoff: The field will be limited to the top 6 archers from 1st two rounds. The shooting will be 6 arrows and 3 shells each at 20 yards. The archer who wins the playoff will be the winner.
Pewter prize tokens will be awarded to the top 3 finalists.

Summary: Society Seasonal Archery Challenge (SSAC)
Description: This shoot imitates targets sneaking up and running away. There will be two different styles of targets for the SSAC tournament. The first is a yellow round circle with a 16” diameter. Within the yellow circle is a green circle that has a 4” diameter. The second target is a 16” square divided in quarters (green & yellow) with a 5” square black diamond in the center.
There will be two shooting ends of 2 arrows at each target at distances of 20, 25 and 30 yards.
1.) Round Advance – Untimed. Archers will shoot two arrows at the round targets at each range, starting at the farthest target and progressing to the nearest target.
2.) Round Retreat – Timed: 45 Seconds. Archers will shoot at the round targets at each range, starting at the nearest target and progressing to the farthest.
3.) Square Advance – Untimed. Archers will shoot two arrows at the square targets at each range, starting at the farthest target and progressing to the nearest target.
4.) Square Retreat – Timed: 45 Seconds. Archers will shoot at the square targets at each range, starting at the nearest target and progressing to the farthest target.
Scoring: Lines count as the higher score.
During the advancing round, the inner circle of the round target is worth 3 points. The outer circle is worth 1 point. The upper left and lower right of the square (green) are worth 3 points. The lower left and upper right (yellow) are worth 1 point. The black square in the center is worth -2 points.
During the retreating round, the scoring is reversed. The outer circle of the round target is worth 3 points. The inner circle is work 1 point. The upper right and lower left (yellow) are worth 3 points. The lower right and upper left (green) are worth 3 points. The black square remains at -2 points.

Summary: Potrero Champion
Description: The “Potrero Champion Shoot” will be an elimination event. There will be six targets for the elimination stage and one final target for the championship. All archers will line up (25 yards) according to rank and shoot 6 arrows at the assigned target for score. The archers will rotate until all six targets have been shot at and scored. The top archers from each ranking will compete in the final elimination at 25 yards with shooting six arrows.

Summary: Dragon Shoot
Description: The “Dragon Shoot” is for kids six years and older. The object is to slay the dragon. The dragon will have different point values. The event will start by shooting six arrows at the ten yard line and scoring the round. Then second round will take place at the seven yard line and scoring. The archer with the highest score will win a prize. NOTES: For kids 6+

Description: The “Kids Champion Royal Round” will decide the kids champion for Potrero War. The archers will shoot six arrows at the 20, 15 and 10 yard line. The highest score wins the prize.

Summary: 40-30-20 Break-the-Bank
Description: Each archer competing in the “40-30-20 Break-The-Bank” shoot will contribute $3.00 to participate. The shooting distances will be 40, 30 and 20 yards. The event will start at 40 yards. Each archer will shoot four arrows from the 40, three arrows from the 30 and two arrows from the 20.
The target is a red cross with white edges. The target has different values of currency marked over the entire target. All arrows that hit the target, win the corresponding currency amount.
At the completion of the event, if there is still money that was not won, one last shoot will take place for the top five money earners. Shooting for the final event will be at the 25 yard line. Each archer will shoot six arrows at a target that has a money symbol in the center. The target will have different values for score. The archer who has the highest score wins the pot.
