Volunteering at Potrero War

If you are new to the SCA, volunteering is wonderful way to meet new and different people and learn more about the inner workings of a war and the SCA in general. It may give you a chance to see your local Shire, Canton or Barony from a different perspective. It can give you sense of being a part of the greater whole of the SCA. And it can be a whole lot of Fun; especially when you get a group of your friends to work as a team at a specific task (like gate or waterbearing). The Barony provides refreshments to maintain your strength through your fun-filled shift So line up, sign up and volunteer today! Remember, 1 shift per war is all we ask.

The Procedure

Use this guide to select a shift and notify the Volunteer Staff at Base Camp of your choice. At Base Camp, a Volunteer Card will be given to you to record each shift you have chosen and registered for. This will act as a reminder and a record of your commitment as war progresses. We're counting on you to be there at the time and day you indicated, please don't let us down!

Volunteer Raffle

Each year the Volunteer Raffle is one of the highlights for those who contribute their time at War. A Raffle will be held following Closing Court on Sunday.

When you work your registered shift, record this work on your Volunteer Card. At the end of your shift, have your Shift Leader initial the card on the line indicating where you worked. When you have completed your "volunteering" for the War, bring your Volunteer Card to Base Camp where you'll turn it in and receive your Raffle tickets. Note that certain tasks/times may be eligible to receive double (or even TRIPLE) raffle tickets!

Volunteer Hours

Your volunteer hours can generate funds for formally recognized SCA groups and activities. The revenue generated from Volunteer hours often is an important fundraiser for many SCA groups. Please make sure you clearly state the known SCA group where you would like your Volunteer Hour funds to be contributed. Households are not eligible to receive Volunteer Hour funds. If no recognized group is stated, the funds will go to the Barony of Calafia.

Positions Not Listed

There are several venues not listed in this directory, though they do need volunteer assistance. Please ask at Base Camp to contact the Volunteer Autocrat to identify these activities in order to sign-up and donate your hours as generously as possible. Please give us a couple of hours towards the benefit of lightening the load. With your assistance we look forward to a great War!
