Turkish Slipper Class

Description: Students will draft a turkish slipper -style turnshoe in velveteen orupholstry fabric.Teacher provides patterns , muslin for mockups, needles, thread, outer fabric and lining--and handout. Students need to bring foam sole inserts (Dr Scholls, or other) in their shoe size---and large quilting hoop.(18" to 20")---scissors, and note-taking materials. Class fee for materials kit is $10. Description: So you've got yourself a recorder or shawm or harp or hand-drum, and you know how to read music (well, the basics at least), and you want to join your local music group and play... but you're not necessarily sure how to do this, or whether you can keep up. This class is for you! We'll look at joining a group and how to be a musically productive member of a group _regardless_ of your level of playing. All levels of musicians are welcome! Please bring whatever instrument you've been working at learning and be ready to make mistakes sight-reading music. After this class you should be able to join the rehearsals for playing at the various balls, so come play with us! Students should be able to read music and should bring a musical instrument they have some knowledge of playing. Students should also bring a chair and music stand (music will be provided)
Belly Dance Basics and Beyond

Description: Brush up on your basics, reawaken those fabulous hips, learn some new moves and enjoy the company of ladies who love to dance! Bring a hip scarf or coin or tassel belt, and a 2-1/2 or 3 yard veil if you'd like to learn some veil moves.
Tiny Tunic Quilt

Wood Working / Building an Osberg Viking Wagon

Description: Class will be mostly hands-on and very little lecture. I will walk you through the steps of building a look-a-like Osberg wagon for carting your stuff. Using simple geometry, we will design the wheels and various parts. For those wanting to get started on their project, you will need to bring tools and lumber. For those wanting a full size pattern, bring a pencil & pattern paper to trace out parts. The goal is to build up your confidence and have fun building things out of wood. Class Size:Open to all. Please contact me by May 15 to reserve a handout. Email bdgoose@yahoo.com and include" May War Wood Class" in subject line. Those signing up late are taking their chances to whether or not any handouts will be available. Age restriction: Lecture - no age limit. For the hands-on portion you must be 18 or older. Cost: $2 for handout to be paid at class. Tools: Clamps (rope or string and rods make a very period tourniquet clamp, and effective too), hand plane, hand saw, chisel, and hammer. Brace and bits if you got them. Materials: Lumber sizes, To be updated or email me! Oak is nice, but pricey and very heavy, Pine is cheap, but not as strong. I am using Poplar, lightweight and easy to work with.

Bocksten Garb - Making a T-Tunic the period way

Description:  Want a dress or tunic that looks more authentic but don't know who to ask?  I can show you how to draft the pattern and put together a tunic based on archeological findings on garb worn by actual Ango Saxons.  The instructions come from an article originally published in Tournaments Illustrated, but available to us all on the web.  We will do the necessary measurements in class and you can take home a handout with all the directions for your very own totally period tunic.  And it's really not that hard.

Mead Making

Description: Mead is a fermented beverage made from honey, water and yeast. Mead can also be flavored using fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices or flowers. Exploring Period Pigments

Beginning Gold Bullion Embroidery

Description: Beginning Gold Bullion Embroidery -----max 15 people Students will learn gold bullion embroidery basics---with techniques suitable for 15th and 16th century time periods, while producing  a small needlebook .Teacher provides kits with handouts and all foundation and metal threads, needles, beeswax,  background fabric , with drawn design, lining and notions for needlebook construction. Students *need* to have basic embroidery experience---be at least 16 and up and bring scissors that can be  used on metal threads *only* , as well as a 6" to 8" embroidery hoop and note-taking materials. Materials fee is $12--for kit; handout alone is $2.00.

Making your own buckles and hinges

Description: Students need to bring two pairs of pliers and a couple wire coat hangers. I will have some extra wire for the buckle portion of the class, the hinge part will be demo and lecture. Students will be shown how to make a basic "D" buckle. Period attachments will be covered. Master Donal O'brien is planning to join me and add making penanulars, in miniature and pins also from wire, to the class.
Polish Coats

Description: An overview of the three main styles of 15th and 16th Century men's Polish Coats – the Giermak, Delia and Zupan. The class will cover some history as well as appropriate colors, fabrics and trims. The class will also discuss adapting these coats as rapier armor.

Description: Come and learn how to cast pewter. It's fun, it's easy and it doesn't take a big investment to start! First a demonstration on the period form of mold making using soapstone, after we'll cast from that mold and others. Great for making site tokens, household badges belt studs etc. Class limit 12 people, children over 12 allowed to watch but only adults will be allowed to cast. A limited number of soapstone mold making kits will be available for $15. Kit Includes soapstone, carving tools and sandpaper. $3 if you want to keep the handout
Opus Anglicanum embroidery
